Goodbye Texas Stadium

April 11, 2010 – Capt. Gridiron

Dallas Cowboys CheerleaderFarewell, Texas Stadium.  You will be missed.

Cowboys fans watched as their old stadium was imploded this weekend by demolition crews. More than a ton of dynamite helped collapsed Texas Stadium in less than a minute.

The cleanup, however, is expected to last well into July.

Cowboy fans began showing up Saturday night in Irving, Texas, for “final tailgate parties” and others watched the event live on TV and the Internet.  And in true Cowboys style, the implosion of Cowboys Stadium even had corporate sponsor.

Kraft Macaroni and  Cheese sponsored the demolition with an essay contest and the winner, 11-year old Casey Rogers of Terrell, Texas, had the prize of pushing the button which triggered the implosion of the stadium.

“America’s Team” lived in  Texas Stadium from 1971 to 2008 when they moved into the $1.3 billion Cowboys Stadium in nearby Arlington, Texas.  The original Texas Stadium cost around $35 million to construct and the Cowboys won all five of their Super Bowl titles while they called it home.
