Georgia AD Thinks He Is Above The Law
The University of Georgia was handed a rather embarrassing situation last night when Athletic Director Damon Evans was arrested on a drunken driving charge and repeatedly referred to his position at the school to the officer in a not so subtle attempt to be let go. Evans even went so far “anything you can do without arresting me,” according to a police report released Friday.
Hey, never hurts to ask I guess.
Evans, 40 and married with two kids, was pulled over with 28-year-old Courtney Fuhrmann, who was charged with disorderly conduct after becoming aggitated with the officer. A pair of red panties allegedly belonging to Fuhrmann were found between Evans’ legs.
“I am not trying to bribe you but I am the athletic director of the University of Georgia,” Evans said, according to the officer identified in the report as M. Cabe.
The officer also said that Evans asked to be taken to a motel instead of jail or to be let off with a warning. According to the report, Evans later said: “I am not trying to bribe you, but is there anything you can do without arresting me?”
In the report, the officer noted he found a “red pair of lady’s panties between (Evans’) legs.” When he asked Evans, a 40-year-old married father of two children, what he was doing with the underwear, Evans said: “She took them off and I held them because I was just trying to get her home,” according to the report. Evans replaced Vincey Dooley who was ousted as A.D. at Georgia in 2004 and Dooley’s son now coaches at rival Tennessee.
The funny thing is Evans was arrested the night before his new five-year contract extension with a nice raise was to take effect. By the time he was escorted to the Atlanta jail, the officer said in the report, Evans began to “cry uncontrollably.” This will be very interesting to see how the school disciplines Evans for his foolish actions.

Update: Evans quick rise to fame is over as the Georgia A.D. has officially resigned amid the controversy. The university’s president, Michael Adams, announced that Evans also released a statement stating “my sincerest apology” to Adams, Georgia officials, coaches, fans and athletes.
