Best Interception of the Year. Maybe of the Decade

Crazy Oklahoma State Interception vs. Oklahoma

November 29, 2010 – Dr. Crackback

Unbelievable effort here as Oklahoma State‘s Broderick Brown flies out of bounds and tips the ball from Oklahomas Landry Jones to OSU teammate Shaun Lewis for the interception. Everyone seems a bit flustered by the play including the Sooners Ryan Broyles (#85). Watch as Broyles is just watching the play unfold and when the INT goes into action we see Broyles just standing around as if nothing happens.

An OSU player gladly helps Broyles remember it’s a live play and plows him to the ground at around the .40 second mark.

Monday Morning GIFs With Stevie Johnsons Rock Hands

Stevie Johnson Fail

November 29, 2010 – Capt. Gridiron

A light weekend of NFL action concluded Sunday because 3 games were held on Thanksgiving day. That didn’t mean there weren’t some great games. The Carolina Panthers tried to get their 2nd win but fell short thanks to a strong day by Peyton Hillis and a bad day bay kicker John Kasay.

Let’s get started with some Monday Morning GIFs.

Hillis TD celebration

Peyton Hillis continues to carry the Cleveland Browns running game on his back despite a rotating QB situation. Jake returned home to Carolina for the first time since being let go and helped the Browns win 24-23 in a crazy game.

But it wouldn’t be a great game without Peyton scoring one of his three first-half touchdowns in style.

Missed FG

The reason that Browns fans are so happy is thanks to a missed last second field goal by the Panthers John Kasay. Wide left. Let’s celebrate with Brian Schaefering.

Finnegan Winks

The Titans Cortland Finnegan enjoys being a jerk. After a brawl with Andre Johnson of the Texans [video here], Cortland didn’t seem too upset. In fact he gave a smile and wink to some of the Texans to continue to egg them on.

Andre Johnson, Cortland Finnegan Brawl [video]

Andre Johnson, Cortland Finnegan Brawl

November 28, 2010 – Capt. Gridiron

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson and Tennessee Titans DB Cortland Finnegan get into a helmet-tossing, punch-throwing brawl during a play in the 4th quarter of the their game on Sunday. Both players were ejected for their parts in the altercation.

Finnegan, known around the league as the Dirtiest Player in the NFL, kept bugging Johnson all game. It eventually went too far for Johnson as the two brawled and punched their ways to ejections from the game.

Andre Johnson politely asked Cortland Finnegan to stop it. By the fourth quarter, Houston’s star receiver had simply had it with the Tennessee cornerback’s antagonistic antics.

Their feisty duel exploded into a full-blown fistfight late in the Texans’ 20-0 win over the Titans on Sunday. Both players were ejected, and the ugly incident could lead to further discipline from the NFL.

“He kept doing little things and I told him: ‘Just because you’re frustrated, you need to stop what you’re doing,”’ Johnson said. “I guess he thought it was funny.” [via]

Small Boy Falls From Stands During UCLA – ASU Game

November 27, 2010 – Capt. Gridiron

A scary moment occurred during the UCLA and Arizona State game as a young boy fell from the stands onto the field. Only a few days ago a young boy fell from a luxury box during a Los Angeles Lakers game and did not survive.  Thankfully this time the news was good as the young boy who fell to the football field did not appear to be seriously injured.

Watch closely and you see a little kid falls from the stands onto the field right after UCLA scores. A scary moment, but initial reports stated there were no serious injuries.

A small boy fell from the stands onto the field in the closing minutes of a game between UCLA Bruins and Arizona State Sun Devils.

The child fell about 10 feet over a rail onto a green tarp covering the grass in the end zone shortly after UCLA scored a touchdown on that end of the field.

Stadium officials attended to the boy for several minutes before one worker carried him off. The boy didn’t cry, but sat upright in the worker’s arms and didn’t appear to be seriously injured.

A 2-year-old boy at a Los Angeles Lakers game died on Sunday from head injuries suffered in a fall from a skybox.

Boise State – Help Wanted. Need New Kicker

Nevada Wolfpack

November 27, 2010 – Dr. Pancake

Boise State’s National Championship hopes are officially gone. Kaput. The Broncos visited Nevada last night and came out with their first loss of the season.

BSU blew several attempts to win the game and let the Nevada team come back from a 24-7 deficit to tie the game. Then two missed kicks later and Boise State went from BCS busters to just another team looking for a bowl game.

Broncos kicker Kyle Brotzman missed two relatively easy field goals that allowed Nevada to win in OT. Check out the highlights, or should I say lowlights, below.

NFL Cheerleaders Gallery: Week 11

November 26, 2010 – Capt. Gridiron

It Thanksgiving week and one thing we are all thankful for is NFL cheerleaders. Maybe not so much the cooler winter weather because it means the girls have to bundle up more.  It’s been a short week in the NFL so let’s get caught up on the Cheerleader gallery.

Da’ Bears! Buy Your Own Mike Ditka Sweater Vest

Mike Ditka Bears sweater vest

November 25, 2010 – Capt. Gridiron

Ditka Sweater VestThe 85′ Bears are known as one of the best teams to ever win the Super Bowl.  It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since this defensive group powered their way to victory. Dang….I’m getting old.

Back in the day coach Mike Ditka was known for wearing a sweater vest with the ‘Bears’ lettering as he walked up and down the sideline.  He was also known for yelling a lot. Well now you can own a piece of history (yelling and cursing opitional) with the Mike Ditka replica sweater vest.

This is the same stylish article of clothing that Ditka even wore on the sideline. Sometimes with a nice jacket because it gets a little nippy in Chicago and you want to stay warm but look good. Help a Bears fan relive the glory days of the 80′s by getting them their very own Ditka sweater vest.  Yup, it’s being brought back.

This is no cheap acrylic knock-off of the classic Ditka Sweater Vest, but is a 100% Wool replica of the Ditka Sweater Vest as worn by Da’ Coach himself, during his epic season of NFL domination (that we from the Windy City, simply know as, the 85′ Bears).

And how could we not mention anything about the 85′ Bears without busting out a clip of Chris Farley and gang doing their tribute to Da Bears. Ahhhh…the Good Old Days when SNL was funny.

Week 12 NFL Power Rankings

NFL Power Rankings

November 23, 2010 – Matt De Lima

Our Fantasy expert Matt De Lima takes a stab at the NFL Power Rankings for Week 12.  There has been a shuffle in the rankings as we now have a new #1 team.  You can also follow Matt De Lima on Twitter.

1) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (8-2)

PatriotsThe Pats jump to the top with a tough, grind-it-out win against Indianapolis. The offense is hit or miss and so is the defense but they keep stacking up wins. With the running game coming together, they are becoming much tougher to beat.

2) ATLANTA FALCONS (8-2)

FalconsIn the NFC, balanced teams are few and far between. But Atlanta has quality talent across their offense and a defense that can hold up its end of the bargain.

3) NEW YORK JETS (8-2)

New York JetsNew York provides fireworks late against a slipping Texans team. This team isn’t pretty; they certainly ain’t sexy. But they win tough, close games and with the playoffs creeping up on us, that’s what matters.

4) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (7-3)

EaglesThe Eagles are on a three-game winning streak including two great wins over the Giants and Colts and of course, that Monday night shellacking they stuck on Washington. As long as Vick is healthy, they can go toe-to-toe with anybody.

5) GREEN BAY PACKERS (7-3)

GreenIn their last four games, Green Bay has won against Minnesota, shutout the New York Jets, beat Dallas by 38 and beat Minnesota again by 28 points. Their next game is at Atlanta and a win there basically makes them to the team to beat in the NFC playoffs.

6) BALTIMORE RAVENS (7-3)

Baltimore RavensThe Ravens are beating teams they should beat, but their tough games? They’re losing them in the last month with losses to Atlanta and New England and wins against Carolina, Miami and Buffalo.

7) PITTSBURGH STEELERS (7-3)

Pittsburgh SteelersThe Steelers have been up and down in their last four games. A big win against Oakland looks nice on paper, but recent losses against two quality opponents (New England and New Orleans) makes you wonder how good this team really is.

8 ) INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (6-4)

Indianapolis ColtsAt home, the Colts are undefeated with a 4-0 record. On the road? Not so much! They’re 2-4. With injuries smothering their offense’s potential, things won’t get any easier as they host the Chargers next week.

9) NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (7-3)

New Orleans SaintsA lack of a running game is hurting New Orleans, but Chris Ivory needs to keep it up. When Drew Brees passes for over 350 yards, the Saints are 1-2. The Saints have a brutal schedule to close the season so they need to beat Dallas and Cincinnati on the road over the next two weeks or they could fall out of favor for the wildcard spot.

10) NEW YORK GIANTS (6-4)

GiantsAfter to two straight losses, suddenly the Giants don’t look as great as they used to. Their defensive secondary has struggled recently and now receiver Hakeem Nicks is reportedly out for three weeks. They need to get back on track fast.

11) TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (7-3)

TampaTampa has won four of their last five and find themselves in a brutal race for the NFC South division race. Josh Freeman has put this team on his back. He’s only turned the ball over six times all season and there might not be a better game-managing QB in the NFC.

12) CHICAGO BEARS (7-3)

Chicago BearsThe Bears dropped two games then went on a bye week in Week 8. But now they’re on a three game win streak. Sure, the opponents have been cupcakes (Buffalo, Minnesota and Miami) but a win is a win is a win. Chicago has a tough game against the Philadelphia Eagles next week which will be a much better indicator of their talents.

13) KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (6-4)

Kansas City ChiefsRunning backs Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones are running over the entire league. Kansas City is averaging 164.7 rushing yards per game, good for 1st in the NFL. Add receiver Dwayne Bowe who has 10 touchdowns in the last six games and the Chiefs can be scary. The Chiefs are 1-2 against divisional opponents with three more division games to go. This is a big problem in a very tight division.

14) OAKLAND RAIDERS (5-5)

RaidersOakland is 3-0 against their AFC West rivals. They play each divisional opponent once more and in a close race, they’ll need each win to separate themselves. Oakland had a tough matchup against Pittsburgh’s brutal run defense so don’t discount them moving forward.

15) SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (5-5)

Tennessee TitansSan Diego gets receiver Vincent Jackson back this week but they need to get healthy ASAP. The Chargers have only won a single road game all season and it came against the wildly inconsistent Houston Texans. They manhandled Denver this past week, but they need a signature win and they’re hoping it comes next week against the Colts.

16) JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (6-4)

Jacksonville JaguarsThe Jaguars are on a three-game win streak and they’re playing themselves right back into playoff contention. Granted those wins came against Dallas, Houston and Cleveland. Maurice Jones-Drew and David Garrard are carrying this team right now.

17) MIAMI DOLPHINS (5-5)

Arizona CardinalsFrom week to week, Miami is as up and down as they come. In the last six weeks, they’re 3-3 (W, L, W, L, W, L). The trend says they’ll win next week against the Oakland Raiders. But with an offense that is falling flat at the wrong time of the year, they shouldn’t count on it.

18) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (5-5)

Seattle SeahawksAccording to this current power rankings, the best team Seattle has beaten this year is the No. 15 San Diego Chargers. This team really isn’t that good but when they play six games their NFC West rivals, they manage to stay relevant in some way.

19) WASHINGTON REDSKINS (5-5)

Washington RedskinsThe Skins are one of those teams that from week to week can surprise some people. Then other weeks, Michael Vick makes them look like a Pop Warner team. Washington still has two games against the New York Giants so anything’s possible if they manage to win those.

20) TENNESSEE TITANS (5-5)

Tennessee TitansTalk about a team in utter disarray. There’s Chris Johnson and the rest of them. Randy Moss hasn’t done squat. Vince Young has basically run himself off the team. They’ve lost three straight and are only mathematically eligible for the playoffs because they won’t be winning their way into them with rookie Rusty Smith at quarterback.

21) ST. LOUIS RAMS (4-6)

St. Louis Rams St. Louis is one of those teams that isn’t doing anything well on offense or defense but nonetheless, they’re scrappy. They’ve beat Tampa Bay and San Diego this season but at the same time, they got crushed by Detroit and lost a tough game against San Francisco just two weeks ago.

22) HOUSTON TEXANS (4-6)

Houston TexansHouston needs to break off the bigger portion of a wish bone on Thanksgiving as they’ve lost four straight. Just ask Jacksonville’s Mike Thomas and New York Jets’ Santonio Holmes how badly the Texans need a big win.

23) DALLAS COWBOYS (3-7)

CowboysDallas is on their first winning streak of the season with wins against the New York Giants and Detroit Lions. Interim head coach Jason Garrett is undefeated so far, but color us skeptical about it lasting much longer with games against New Orleans, Indianapolis and Philadelphia.

24) SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (3-7)

San Francisco 49ersThe 49ers got smothered by a better coached Tampa Bay team this past Sunday after reeling off two straight wins. Is Mike Singletary on the hot seat yet?

25) MINNESOTA VIKINGS (3-7)

Minnesota VikingsNow that head coach Brad Childress is out, maybe they can turn things around? Maybe not. But after getting embarrassed at home by the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota has a long way to go.

26) CLEVELAND BROWNS (3-7)

Cleveland BrownsCleveland hasn’t won a game since October 24, but it did come against the New Orleans Saints. But after three straight losses to New England, New York Jets and Jacksonville, the silver lining is they may have found their future quarterback in Colt McCoy.

27) BUFFALO BILLS (2-8)

BillsWhat’s gotten into Buffalo lately? Well their wins did come against a pair of cellar dwellars in Detroit and Cincinnati but nonetheless, the morale probably won’t get much higher in the Bills’ locker room all season.

28) DENVER BRONCOS (3-7)

Denver BroncosDenver has lost five of their last six and in spite of that big win over Kansas City, this has been just an awful season. They’ve got the worst running game in the NFL and simply aren’t scoring enough points in to keep up with a very difficult AFC West division.

29) ARIZONA CARDINALS (3-7)

Arizona CardinalsNext week is a battle for who’s the third best team in the NFC West as the Cardinals face San Francisco. Being the worst team in that division is not something you want on your resume.

30) CINCINNATI BENGALS (2-8)

Cincinnati Bengals How embarrassing. At halftime last week, Cincinnati heads to the locker room up big with a 31-14 lead. The Bengals then surrender 35 unanswered points to Buffalo to get absolutely humiliated at home. Et tu, Marvin Lewis?

31) DETROIT LIONS (2-8)

Detroit LionsAnother Thanksgiving game coming up and this time it’s against the top team in our rankings, the New England Patriots. Feel free to grab a post-meal turkey nap during this game, it should be a rout in the Patriots’ favor.

32) CAROLINA PANTHERS (1-9)

PanthersWell, at least running back Mike Goodson is making a name for himself. He rushed for 120 yards in a loss to Baltimore this past weekend. Besides that, it’s ugly. Quarterback Briant St. Pierre started for Carolina last week. Even Google barely has heard of this guy. Nuff said.

Vikings Fire Brad Childress….Finally

Brad Childress Fired

November 22, 2010 – Capt. Gridiron

The Vikes lame duck coach Brad “Chilly” Childress has finally been shown the exit. The Vikings were predicted to have a big year this season after coming an OT loss from the Super Bowl last year. Instead injuries racked up, Randy Moss stopped by for a few weeks and the Brett Favre “Pay attention to me” sideshow got turned up higher than usual.

The Vikings stumbled to an embarrassing 3-7 record and have virtually no shot at the playoffs.  I grace them with the term “virtually” because even with their record they could run the table and have a chance.  I just don’t see that happening with this team.

Not too many fans are surprised by the move. Many are asking owner Zygi Wilf what took so long.
