Cam Newton Easily Wins Heisman
There’s really little doubt that Auburn QB Cam Newton should be awarded this year’s Heisman Trophy. He is hands down one of the most talented players to take the field in a decade with his stunning athleticism.
The only question is whether or not he will get to keep the prestigious award.
It’s only been a few months since Reggie Bush gave back his trophy after a lenghty NCAA investigation ruled him ineligible and made the USC Trojans forfeit games. The embarrassing situation for Bush involved him or his parents taking gifts and money.
The reason that Bush’s predicament is important is because Cam Newton and his family are involved in a similar situation where Cam and his circle of family and friends are accused of taking large sums of money in exchange for playing at Auburn.
Whatever the future holds for Cam and those accusations did not scare off Heisman voters from voting for Newton, who received 729 first-place votes and easily beat runner-up Andrew Luck of Stanford. Oregon running back LaMichael James was third, followed by Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, the other finalist.
In the end the voters did the right thing by not being swayed by accusations and rumors. If Newton is guilty then let the facts come out and the punishment dealt out. For now, the job is to give the award to the best player and Cam is just that.
