Ben Roethlisberger And Steelers Help Film Upcoming Batman Movie at Heinz Field
I know there’s a good joke in there somewhere about alleged fratboy rapist Ben Roethlisberger joining the set of the new Batman film for some cameos. And to clarify, he’s a fratboy who allegedly rapes, not a dude who rapes fratboys.
There are a lot of villains in Gotham City so it was really no surprise when word came out that NFL bad boy Ben Roethlisberger was showing up with some players for the new Batman movie, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’
I guess that is why it was easy for director Christopher Nolan to pick Ben Roethlisberger and some of the current Pittsburgh Steelers’ in the latest Batman movie.
Shooting for a football scene happened in Pittsburgh over the week and thousands of extras were on hand. I’m sure they were told not to film and signed a release but when has that stopped anyone?
One guy up in the nosebleeds got a couple of videos of the action. You can see how they marked off part of the field with green grass on the normal turf at Heinz Field, which has been for many years known as the worst field in the NFL.
The Steelers’ players will play as the Gotham City Rogues. According to the guy who made the video, who may or may not be Beavis, the bad guy named Bane [Tom Hardy] blows up the football field when #86 of the Gotham Rogues [Hines Ward] runs to make a touchdown after the kick off. Bane comes out to address and strike fear in Gotham as he pulls the microphone from the dead ref on the ground outside the tunnel where he comes out with his thugs and someone he has prisoner.
Bane also drags out some big crazy device that’s supposedly the means of our destruction. Here are two videos, one of the destruction/bombs and the other of Bane addressing the crowd.

And here’s a closer view of the explosions on the field.
The notable Steelers slated to make cameos are Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Willie Colon, Maurkice Pouncey, Mike Wallace, Heath Miller, Aaron Smith, Ryan Clark, Troy Polamalu, James Farrior and Casey Hampton
The Steelers quarterback has become close with Thomas Tull, the film’s executive producer who joined the Steelers ownership group two years ago. Tull helped influence the shooting of the movie in Pittsburgh and he’s been trying to get the Steelers involved. Chrstopher Nolan is directing the third in his Batman trilogy. The movie stars Christian Bale as Batman and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.
“I’m kind of getting everybody together,” Roethlisberger told the Post-Gazette today. “I heard it’s going to be a neat thing at the stadium. I don’t think it will be a big part, it’s not like we’re chasing Batman down or anyting. It’s something neat that in 10 years or 20 years we can tell our kids we were in a movie. Thomas does movies big and I’m sure it will be a big-time movie and something fun to be part of.”
