Orlando Brown, former Cleveland Browns player, found dead at age 40
Former Cleveland Brown lineman Orlando Brown was found dead at his home in his Baltimore home at the age of 40. The 6-7, 350-pound lineman played 11 seasons in the NFL with 2 stints each in Baltimore and Cleveland.
Despite his long career in the league Brown was most known for suing the NFL after an official nearly blinded him during a game. Referee Jeff Triplette threw his yellow, weighted flag which was aimed right at Brown’s head. The weighted part of the flag was filled with metal BBs and struck Brown in the eye and injured him.
The injury prompted a very famous scene in which Brown went after the ref, angry at the situation. His lawsuit was settled out of court and eventually returned to play with Baltimore.
Brown went with Cleveland when the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1996. After three years with the Ravens, he signed a 6-year, $27 million free-agent contract with the expansion Browns in 1999. Late that season he received national attention because of an accident that nearly blinded him.
Early in the second quarter of a Week 15 game against Jacksonville, the Browns were called for a false start penalty. The referee, Jeff Triplette, blew the whistle and threw his flag, which was weighted with BBs. The flag flew between the bars of Brown’s cage facemask and struck his right eye. Brown went to the sideline holding his eye but turned around and came back onto the field and shoved Triplette to the ground. He was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was immediately ejected from the game. Three days later, the league suspended him indefinitely.
Brown had blurred vision and bleeding in the eye and was hospitalized for six days. Despite numerous treatments around the country, he wasn’t medically cleared to play again until early 2003. That March, Brown signed a free-agent contract with the Ravens. He played his final three seasons back in Baltimore wearing a tinted visor over his facemask and goggles underneath. In the meantime, his lawsuit against the N.F.L. was settled out of court in 2002.

Clemson Provides Ugliest, and Funniest, INT of the Season
Kids, this is NOT how you do it.
Clemson Quarterback Tajh Boyd avoids the Florida State blitz but tries to throw it as he trips over his own feet. It’s ugly. One of the uglier INT’s of the year. You don’t want this kind of thing on your personal highlight reel.
Just watch the attempted pass a few times and it’s just hilarious. Boyd fails so bad that the ball just pops straight up and hangs in time for FSU to grab it. In the end it didn’t matter as Clemson hung on for an upset win.
Whoa! Ga Techs Stephen Hill Nails One-Handed Catch
Georgia Tech’s Stephen Hill climbs the ladder for an awesome catch against North Carolina for the catch of the week. The 6’5″ Hill reached for the stars to make this catch and help the #25 ranked Yellow Jackets hold off North Carolina 35-28.
Stephen Hill finished the game for Georgia Tech with six receptions for 151 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown.
NFL Cheerleaders Week 2 Bouncing Everywhere
The NFL season continued into week 2 with some surprises. Chicago and Baltimore fell but the Bills and Redskins continued to win. Thankfully, we can count on the reliable NFL Cheerleader galleries to keep us happy.
Whoa! Grandmas Shotgun Beer at U of Michigan Tailgating Party
OK, I admit I’m not a Big Ten person. It’s a tough conference but highly overrated over the last 15 years but if this is what’s happening in the conference I will have to change my opinion.
One guy was tailgating at the Michigan Wolverines game and came across a couple of Silver Foxes showing the kids how to properly shotgun a beer. That’s how it’s done kids!
Pigskin Doctors Week 2 NFL Power Rankings
Week two saw a shuffling of teams in the list as question marks like Pittsburgh and Chicago showed us what they were made of. The Chiefs and Seahawks continue to stumble but the Lions are roaring in Detroit. Here’s a breakdown of the Power Rankings after week 2.
1) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (2-0)
Brady keeps passing for crazy numbers. That’s enough to win almost any game. It’s a neck-and-neck race with Green Bay for the number one slot but I like how the Pats handled the Chargers on both sides of the ball. Across the board the Pats are still the best team in the league and when you have highlights like this you’re firing on all cylinders.
2) GREEN BAY PACKERS (2-0)
Green Bay held off a pesky Carolina team and given another 5 minutes this game might have gone into overtime. S Nick Collins is out for the year with a nasty neck injury and the Pack are great at dealing with injuries but I’m still not happy with the defense not shutting down teams more. That’s 2 close games in 2 weeks.
3) NEW YORK JETS (2-0)
The Jets beat up a pathetic Jags team which is what a good team does to a bad team. C Nick Mangold is out for awhile and that might spell a little trouble with Sanchez but overall the Jets improved a lot with a great defensive showing. The Jets lead the league in INT’s (5) on the season and that kind of backfield effort is going to help get them closer to the Pats.
4) DETROIT LIONS (2-0)
Stafford was impressive. Very impressive and the “D” is solid. The defense ranks #2 overall in INT’s and Forced Fumbles but rank in the middle on sacks. That could use some help but that’s like saying a race car needs a bit better tires. The Lions are roaring.
5) NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (1-11)
The Saints rebounded from their close loss against the Pack with a stellar performance at home and a convincing win over the Bears considering a few stars were on the bench. The Saints looked solid on defense but Brees is starting to heat up and that means trouble for the rest of the division. He’s thrown 6 TD’s and no INT’s, a big change from last year.
6) HOUSTON TEXANS (2-0)
The Texans won in Miami and a road win is always a good thing. The Dolphins aren’t that great and the game was close which makes us all wonder what this team is about. We will find out on Sunday as they will play the Saints and we’ll see what this team is made of.
7 ) DALLAS COWBOYS (1-1)
Tony Romo won this game. When was the last time we used that sentence without substituting ‘lost’ for ‘win?’ Despite a fractured rib and punctured lung, Romo stood tall in the pocket and helped fuel a comeback win in OT in San Fran. Very impressive win but Ryan’s defense needs to play more bruising defense for all 4 quarters next week against division leader Washington. The Cowboys have all the tools to win this game but Romo’s health will be a factor.
8 ) BUFFALO BILLS (2-0)
The Bills were the last team standing in the shootout against the Raiders. Next up, the Pats. Whoa. This is the game we’ll see if the Bills are for real or not. QB Fitzpatrick has 7 TD’s and 1 INT. Very impressive.
9) WASHINGTON REDSKINS (2-0)
Shanahan is 2-0 with Rex Grossman as QB. Savor that for a moment for its rarity.
10) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (1-1)
The Philly All-Star team rolled into Atlanta for Vick’s first return in a regular season game in his old home town. It was a brutal boxing match as both teams hit each other with everything they had and in the end the Eagles got the worst of it. Vick was knocked out with a concussion and is out for awhile which means the future of the Eagles is a little hazy right now.
11) ATLANTA FALCONS (1-1)
The Falcons rebound nicely but it took a few quarters to showcase their stuff. The Eagles pounded them hard but the Falcons and Matt Ryan didn’t go down. Instead they got stronger and won this game solidly while also knocking Vick out of the game. Ouch! Solid win.
12) BALTIMORE RAVENS (1-1)
Baltimore got a wake up call from their stunning first week victory over the Steelers by the Titans. The Ravens defense looked hung over as Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck tossed the ball for over 300 yards. I expect the Ravens to wake up next week but the poor performance this week drops them down the list.
13) TAMPA BAY BUCS (1-1)
The Bucs showed some guts in the comeback road win in Minny. Josh Freeman looked like Joe Montana in the 4th quarter with his offensive management and I dig this kid. More games like this, please. The Bucs are fun to watch.
14) PITTSBURGH STEELERS (1-1)
The win we all expected from the Steelers against one of the worst teams in the NFL over the last decade. The Steelers did everything right and Big Ben held off a few low tackles by Seattle to knock his knees out. Tough win but sweet for Steelers fans.
15) CHICAGO BEARS (1-1)
Ouch. The New Orleans wake up call brings back the question of whether the Bears are as good as we thought in week one. Right now the verdict is still out but the running game was virtually shut down and with Green Bay next week that will be an issue.
16) SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (1-1)
Philip Rivers keeps passing that ball but they were no match for the Pats, a team that will beat a lot of squads this year. Tough loss but Chiefs next week are the next best thing to a bye week.
17) ARIZONA CARDINALS (1-1)
The Cards and Kevin Kolb should have beat the ‘Skins on the road but came up short with turnovers. Overall, the best team in the NFC West but that’s not really a compliment. Cards need improvement but are moving up and that’s good enough to get them into the playoffs at this rate.
18 ) NEW YORK GIANTS (1-1)
Injuries and issues on defense have me wondering how long the bottom will hold out on this boat.
19) OAKLAND RAIDERS (1-1)
The Raiders lost a shootout. Probably could have won but have shown some offensive skills in their loss.
20) TENNESSEE TITANS (1-1)
The Titans won a solid game at home against the Ravens. Hasselbeck lit up the Raves for over 300 yards which is a shocker. Chris Johnson has yet to find his groove (give him time) but things are looking “Not So Bad” in Nashville right now after a much better showing in week 2.
21) SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (1-1)
A lazy lost at home for the Niners as the Cowboys came back to steal this game. The team lacks depth and apparently some character to hold off good teams. Next up, Cincy on the road. Could we see another loss? Also, everyone in the division is 1-1 at the moment which means the Bengals are tied for first!
22) CINCINNATI BENGALS (1-1)
Tough loss on the road in Denver as this young defense let the Broncos come back to win. QB Andy Dalton is looking fine with 3 TD’s and no INT’s on the season but they were stopped by a Denver “D” missing most of their studs. Not a bragging point.
23) CLEVELAND BROWNS (1-1)
The Browns beat off a struggling Colts squad and it took a few quarters to get going but once they did they looked alright. Why every other play isn’t a run by Hillis is beyond me but that’s probably why this team is 1-1 at the moment.
24) DENVER BRONCOS (1-1)
Kyle Orton rebounded with a great game but injuries are creeping up on this team. Too many stars are on the bench and it’s showing.
25) MINNESOTA VIKINGS (0-2)
Vikes blew a 17 point lead on the Bucs to bumble to 0-2. A.P. is looking solid but the offense is struggling despite his heroic efforts. Defense fell asleep for the second week in a row.
26) CAROLINA PANTHERS (0-2)
Cam Newton tossed the ball everywhere against the Super Bowl champs and at a few times looked like a rookie. But overall, he single-handedly kept his team in the game. Impressive. The rest of the team on the other hand….
27) MIAMI DOLPHINS (0-2)
Reggie Bush struggled and the Dolphins look a little lost. At 0-2 this team is sinking fast in this division. Going to be a tough year.
28 ) ST. LOUIS RAMS (0-2)
The Rams limped into Monday Night Football with a lot of stars on the bench. It showed and they were outplayed. Running game is AWOL without Jackson.
29) JACKSONVILLE JAGS (1-1)
Pathetic. Del Rio moves one step closer to the unemployment line. My bet, week 6 he’s gone but more games like this and he’ll be booted much, much earlier.
30) KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (0-2)
The Chiefs may end up with Andrew Luck if they continue to lose players. The latest star out is RB Jamaal Charles who is out for the season. The second-best RB in the league is on IR on a struggling team. Sorry Chiefs fans, it’s looking bleak.
31) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (0-2)
Tarvaris Jackson and the offensive line looked horrible. Just horrible. This may be the worst team in Seahawk history right now. Just horrible. And special teams….ugh.
32) INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (0-2)
There’s nothing positive to say about the Colts but the Indiana Hoosiers got their first win this week against South Carolina State. That’s the closest thing I can find that’s positive dealing with football in the state.
I’m Tony Gonzalez? Our Week 2 in Review
Whatever you thought about the NFL in Week 1 then you probably had a change of opinion about a lot of teams after week 2. Here’s a look at what went down in the NFL during the second week of the season.
Oakland 35, Buffalo 38
Bills are 2-0! Bills are 2-0!
Fitzpatrick needs to grow back that beard because he leads the NFL in QB passer rating. What the heck just happened? For one thing, it helps when Oakland leaves their defense on the bench for the game winning play.
KC 3, Detroit 48
No team depends on their QB like the Colts as do the Lions. The health of Matthew Stafford is key to every game and Lions fans hold their breath each time he takes a hit. But Mr. Glass has shown he’s much better now thanks to offseason surgery.
The Chiefs don’t have to worry about that because they have Matt Cassel. But not RB Jamaal Charles. He’s now gone for the year along with any hope this team could make the playoffs.
Once the season started the Chiefs season went kinda like this:

Baltimore 13, Tennessee 26
The Ravens must have thought they won the Super Bowl last week by embarrassing the Steelers because they took this week off. The Titans are a mixed bag but could make some noise in the AFC South because with the Colts and Jags sucking and the Texans still a ?, this team might be the best team in the division.
Arizona 21, Washington 22
Quick, guess who leads the NFC East with a 2-0 record. On your 4th guess you’ll come to the Redskins and Sexy Rexy Grossman finding a way to win the game. My guess it will be around week 6 before Mike Shanahan finds a way to screw this up.
Seattle 0, Pittsburgh 24
It’s a matchup of Super Bowl XL but let’s just say the ‘Hawks aren’t what they used to be. To be more to the point, the Seahawks just suck. Hell, even KC scored 3 points.
I believe that Tard-varis Jackson may be the love child of Dave Brown and David Klingler. The Seahawks offense is so bad with Jackson at the helm I believe they should pull the QB and snap the ball into the backfield for a wild scramble. The odds of a Seahawk picking up the ball first and advancing more than one yard is an improvement on the terrible squad they are fielding right now.
Cleveland 27, Indy 19
Kerry on! The Colts will easily win the Andrew Luck lottery but may have to hold of the Seahawks and Chiefs to get into the Suicide Booth.

Jacksonville 3, New York Jets 32
Ever see a cat catch a mouse and play with it before eating it? Yeah, this game was like that. Jags coach Jack Del Rio spent the entire second half pulling his cell phone out and staring at it, wondering if he should call up David Garrard and see if they can get back together.
“I made a mistake, baby.”
Don’t worry, Jack. You’ll see him soon enough on the unemployment line.
Chicago 13, New Orleans 30
The Bears blew out Atlanta in week 1 and made us all wonder “Are they for real?”
Turns out “No”, they’re not.
Tampa 24, Minny 20
I love Josh Freeman but if this young Bucs squad can find a way to play a full 4 quarters like they do the second half of games they would easily win this division.
Houston 23, Miami 13
This game was the equivalent of watching a Nic Cage movie. I wasn’t sure going in if I was going to get a great game or an ugly mess. It was OK. Kinda like “Face Off.”

Panthers 23, Green Bay 30
Thanks to Cam Newton’s second 400+ passing day and last minute TD, the Panthers blew the spread for my pool. Kid is starting to piss me off. That’s 2 weeks in a row. I’m gonna have to rethink my trust in Cam to fuel a team with virtually no defense.
Dallas 27, SF 24
Whoa, did Tony Romo just come back into the game with fractured rib? Did he just win the game with two drives, one in the 4th and one in OT, to win the game? I don’t know what they injected into Romo during the stint in the locker room but they might want to make that a new pregame ritual.
As for the 49ers, the sooner they realize that Alex Smith is the model of mediocrity the better. Being “almost there” has to to get old eventually, don’t you think? This cat knows what it’s like.

Cincinnati 22, Denver 24
The hardest game of the week to pick because both teams are creative in finding ways to lose games. It’s like Picasso vs Rembrandt up in this bitch. At least Kyle Orton decided to have his decent game this week to help me win the spread.
The Broncos are so injured at receiver that John Fox sat down and prayed for help. God sent him Tebow who played some a receiver. All hail Tebus!
San Diego 21, Patriots 35
Brady once again torches an offense because the Chargers forgot to scout the Pats TE’s. Yeah know, because the Pats never throw to their TE’s.
Philly 31, Atlanta 35
The Falcons won this slugfest as both teams pounded the living crap out of each other all game long. The Falcons won because they knocked out Vick before the Eagles knocked out Ryan.
This truck pull helps demonstrate the struggle of the two tough teams.

St. Louis 16, Giants 28
At least we can count on Eli to fill in our Manning void with Peyton gone, right?
Bradford threw for 331 yards but the Rams looked lost in the Meadowlands in a battle of teams with more stars on the IR than on the field.
Monday Night GIFs Feel Sorry For Chiefs Fans

Kicking off the GIF’s today a tad late. Usually we do this in the morning so tonight it’s an evening celebration. Let’s begin!
Someone in Seattle hasn’t forgot Super Bowl XL
Seattle enjoyed hitting Big Ben in the knees on Sunday because they have no bitter feelings toward the Steelers at all. Which is funny because I can’t think of a Seahawk that was on that Super Bowl team that’s still around.
Shake it off, A.P.
A.P. proved once again he’s the top RB in the league. Too bad he’s on such a bad team or they might have a victory to add to his big day.
Eaaaaaaaagggggglllleee!!!
Detroit beat up the Chiefs so bad that K.C. has filed domestic abuse charges against the Lions. After the game got out of hand, Jahvid Best did his best Walter Payton imitation for the fans. Twice. Here’s the better of the two attempts.
Required Hillis celebration GIF
Gotta have some Hillis.
How Chiefs fans feel Monday morning
Worst case scenario for Chiefs fan as Jamaal Charles was taken off the field, along with any chance of the Chiefs winning future games, in a cart and is done for the year.
Stuckey’s hands need stick-em
Fumble! There goes the ball and the game. Sexy Rexy is now 2-0!!
Austin City Limits
Biggest surprise of the day as the Cowboys show a rare sign of toughness in a hard fought, comeback win against the 49ers. Austin’s stumbling TD is a thing of beauty.
Tony Tip Toes in the Endzone
Tony shows why he’s still the best TE in the league with this fantastic catch.
Best INT of the year
To top it off, here’s 325+ lb Vince Wilfork rumbling after intercepting a Philip Rivers pass. He was tackled at the 30 and proceeded to eat the football, thinking it was a ham.
Watch the Big Man Go! 300+ Wilforks INT Run
Hope you drafted Tom Brady for your Fantasy Team this year. That’s because he is busy setting NFL records.
Last week Brady set a single-game team record of 517 yards passing and followed up with 423 yards against the Chargers Sunday in a 35-21 win over. As Brady nears 1,000 yards passing just 2 games into the season you have to wonder if he can keep up this pace for the rest of the season.
As long as he continues to get help from his friends I wouldn’t be too worried. The team play of the Patriots is one of the best in the league and it was highlighted by the massive Vince Wilfork looking as nimble as a receiver Sunday.
The 325 lb defensive lineman jumped up and intercepted a Philip Rivers pass and then started to rumble! I love to see the big guys go!
It was the first INT for Wilfork in his career and he almost made if for a TD.
Wilfork was thrilled to make a play that helped the team win, but in the long term, he was just relieved that he doesn’t have to hear his teammates make fun of him for dropping an interception.
“I am just happy I caught it because if I didn’t catch it, I am pretty sure my teammates would have let me have it,” Wilfork said.
Raiders Forget To Play Defense
The Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills played out one of the best games of the week as the two teams had a shoot-out in the 4th quarter. The surprising Bills won 38-35 as 35 total points were scored in the final 15 minutes.
The win puts the Bills at 2-0 on the season and tied for the AFC East lead. That all happened because Ryan Fitzpatrick, who leads the NFL in QB Passing Rating, found a wide-open David Nelson on fourth down for a 6-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds left to secure a 38-35 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
Check out the video and you’ll see the Raiders gave the game away as the defense just evacuated the middle of the field. On the goalline! I mean, it’s like they didn’t even try. Goal line. 4th down. Last play of the game!!
The Raiders rush 5 which means the remaining 6 are just messing around. The double team C.J. Spiller and if you watch closely enough at the top of the screen they triple one receiver and another is left going wide open to the corner of the endzone. Epic collapse by the Raiders on coverage here.
