For all the talk of having a playoff system in college football due to flaws in the BCS system you had to enjoy today if you were a fan of the game. Notre Dame took care of business by blanking Wake Forest at home 38-0. Tonight they sat back and hoped that Baylor or Stanford would pull off a monster upset. Both teams were heavy underdogs, but apparently everyone forgot to let them know. Baylor ran all over Kansas State and ended their National Championship hopes in the first half. Stanford put the clamps on Oregon’s unstoppable offense and pulled off a last minute TD drive to force OT. In the overtime session Oregon failed to convert on a field goal attempt and on defense couldn’t recover a game extending fumble that looked like they should have easily recovered. Stanford nailed the field goal to allow the Crimson Tide of Alabama to get back into the #2 slot.
I don’t know who had Notre Dame as the last undefeated team in the nation and holding the top BCS in mid-November just made a lot of money. Notre Dame will still need to take care of a struggling USC Trojan squad that just dropped a big rivalry game to UCLA. In the game USC QB Matt Barkley exited late after a hard hit on a sack.
