Tom Gamble rumored to be new Jets General managerThe New York Jets are aggressively seeking out a new general manager to replace Mike Tannenbaum who was relived of his duties last week.  One of the hot names around the league being considered for many opening is Tom Gamble who is current the director of player personnel with the 49ers.  According to a Tweet by ESPN’s Adam Shefter, Gamble canceled an interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars to get ready for his interview in New York.  Gamble has a strong background in scouting players and has had some stellar drafts with the 49ers that have made them one of the top young teams in the league.  Another item that makes you think Gamble is the best guy for the Jets is that he has a history with Rex Ryan from his time in Philadelphia working with his father Buddy Ryan.  Rumors have it that any GM would need to give Rex at least one year to turn around the offensive side of the ball to match what he has done with the defense – pretty similar to what the Bears did with Lovie Smith this season.

Other candidates for the job in New York have been rumored to be landing in other places which makes Gamble’s trip to NY even more important. The Jets will meet with the Giant’s Marc Ross on Monday, their in house candidate Scott Cohen should also still get a look, Dave Caldwell of the falcons is rumored to be joining the Jaguars, Tom Heckert from Cleveland is apparently afraid of the salary cap situation, and John Dorsey from Green Bay is likley t join Andy Reid in Kansas City.

 UPDATE:

New report says the Jets have already cemented a deal that will run 3-4 years with Gamble.
