The NFL and NIKE have updated the arsenal of NFL jerseys with their new agreement and one team has quite the clever idea. Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holders will now all get their very own personalized Chiefs jersey in a move to help the franchise celebrate 50 years of existence.

Chiefs fans can check out the details here.

It will take a chunk of change out of the Chiefs pockets to furnish an entire stadium with new threads so don’t be surprised to see some stipulations like one jersey per set of tickets, not for each ticket, and the quality of the jersey is not the highest. But still, not a bad offering because we all would take them up on the offer if we were in the season ticket holders position.

[via PFT] The Chiefs announced on Saturday that, in recognition of the franchise’s 50th season in Kansas City, every season-ticket account will receive a personalized Chiefs jersey.

“We are very excited to be celebrating 50 years in Kansas City,” owner Clark Hunt said. “My family and I are extremely grateful to be a part of this great city and we have built so many fond memories here through the years.

When my dad brought this team to Kansas City, he knew there was something special about this place. For 50 years, the Kansas City community has rallied around the Chiefs, and for that, we want to say thank you for being the best fans in the NFL.”

March 20, 2012 – Capt. Gridiron

Pittsburgh’s biggest sports fans, the folks at Benstonium, are back at it again. They have just released a parody news story about Tim Tebow retiring after news that the Broncos have signed former Colt Peyton Manning.

After seeing how Steelers Hines Ward announced his retirement and with the Easter fast approaching, Tebow saw Hines’ sacrificial act with a different meaning, and is now a converted Hines Ward follower.

I can see this happen, actually. Beats being traded to Miami… [via Benstonium]

BREAKING NEWS (Denver) — In a surprising move today, Tim Tebow has retired from the Denver Broncos. His decision came moments after Hines Ward announced his retirement from the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier today. After seeing the unselfish act of loyalty that Hines displayed, the flash-in-the-pan quarterback admitted to having a revelation: “Hines Ward sacrificed his career so the Steelers’ sins of not resigning him would be forgiven. For me to sign with another team would be blasphemy!”

Tebow admits to first becoming a devout follower of Hines during his championship run on Dancing With The Stars. Tebow said, “He was so graceful. It was like he was dancing on water.” Fans question whether Tebowing will retain its popularity being altered from a kneeling prayer to the Pasodoble, but the AFC Championship runner-up quarterback remains hopeful.

Tebow and many of the Hines Ward faithful, believe his career will be resurrected sometime soon, most likely as a broadcaster. Hines came to the decision to retire from football after the Steelers were unwilling to renegotiate his contract. Sources say, Hines admitted to having prior knowledge of this betrayal by the front office, and even warned his teammates during their last Super Bowl.

Despite Tebow’s insistance, Ward adamantly denied the rumor that he is the messiah. When asked by Benstonium reporters to comment, Hines responded, “What?! Who the hell is Tim Tebow?! And how the [expletive] did you get in my home?”

Has the messiah returned in the same city that witnessed The Immaculate Reception? In Pittsburgh, where Steeler football is considered religion, many who have watched Hines sacrifice his body on crosses down the middle of the field would say yes. Despite many skeptics, predominately in the Baltimore area, everyone can agree that the NFL is better off without Tim Tebow and his unorthodox style of play.

February 29, 2012 – Dr. Crackback

One of the worst run NFL franchises is gearing up to be a powerful force to reckon with in the future. Well, not on the field but rather the stands. The lowly Dolphins might not be able to draft a decent QB but they will be able to send you a tweet to tell you the approximate wait line in the nearest restroom in the 3rd quarter of a home game.

IBM and the Miami Dolphins are going to make their Southern Florida home a technological marvel with IBM’s cutting-edge analytics technology that will help incorporate some fancy new features to help fans decide where to park, what weather will happen in the 3rd quarter and I’m willing to bet, where to buy stuff.

[via Mashable] With 75,00 seats, 24,000 parking spots, 1.5 million square feet of space and the world’s largest point-of-sale vending system under one roof, Sun Life Stadium functions almost as its own little city when the Dolphins play or a famous performer comes to town. That’s why the Dolphins are adopting technology originally intended for IBM’s “Smarter Cities” initiative. Aspects of that program have already been implemented by officials in Berlin, Malta and London.

Using computers to make the user experience for fans easier is nothing new but the use of IBM to cast a digital grid over Sun Life Stadium is the wave of the future. It all comes in line as the cost of a game is outpricing itself real quick and owners are looking for ways to get an edge on the casual fan sitting in front of their HDTV at home.

Nearby in Tampa, the NHL’s Lightning use RF (Radio Frequency) chips sewn into jerseys for fans to pay for beers and merchandise.

…the Tampa Bay Lightning introduced a replica team jersey equipped with a radio frequency chip embedded in the sleeve that fans can scan at stadium stores to receive discounts on refreshments and team merchandise for all season ticket holders. The promotion has worked — it helped spur a nearly twofold increase in season ticket sales this year.

I think it’s a bit scary that someone in a booth in a stadium could possibly track you around the stadium to see how many times you use the restroom or something but if it means a nice discount on the pricey beer it might be worth it.

In the future you will be able to use Near field communication (NFC) chips embedded into phones and similar devices to instantly pay for goods. That’s OK but I forsee a day when a fan can sit up in the upper bleachers, probably next to some loudmouth and over tanned “Jersey Shore” looking peeps, and open an App on their phone and have the beers and hot dogs brought to them.

Now that I can get used to.

The new owner’s strategy for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shahid Khan and his mustache have bought the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars and while many of us thought it was to uproot the team, located in a small market, and plant it down in Los Angeles, one of the biggest TV markets in the world, it’s refreshing to see that this guy might be one of the new wave of owners that could help change the world of sports.

Keeping the customer in mind is one of those ‘things’ that many businesses seem to forget while looking the at the spreadsheets and profit numbers. Forbes magazine sat down with Khan and went over his plans with the team and his future plans for the franchise.

It’s a great look at the inside of the team and if you’re a Jags fan you will be pleasantly surprised at this guy as the new owner. And c’mon, that mustache! It’s so beautiful!

Despite being a ‘factory of sadness‘, maybe this year is the year for the Browns. At least one fan thinks so.

Whoa. I guess if you have $1,000 to spend on a throw away bet like a safety being the first points of the Super Bowl [video here] than money is probably not much of an issue. Or maybe you just had a hunch.

But for one fan who put that coin on the bet they are $51,000 richer. At 50/1 for the safety to be the first points notched on the Super Bowl, this $1,000 bet nets a total sum of $51K.

Very impressive. I recommend this person to try and play the lottery on a regular basis cuz they’re luck as Heck.

According to Benjamin Lyons, a Twitter user, his friend won the bet in Vegas as well as another $1k on just having a safety during the game which jacks up his total to $58,500!

Lego fan and Colt fan Brian Alano ponied up some of his hard earned money to help create a LEGO replica of Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts and Super Bowl XVLI. Over 30,000 of the little plastic toys were gathered to create the five-foot square tribute that is currently being showcased in honor of the Super Bowl.

[via INDYSTAR.com] When he heard Lucas Oil Stadium was on the drawing board to be built in Downtown Indianapolis, Brian Alano posed the idea of constructing a LEGO replica of the Colts’ new home to his wife, Becky.“I didn’t have any clue about the scope of how big it would be,” said Becky, 46.

“I asked her if I could build it,” said Brian, a 44-year-old engineer from Bloomington, Ind. “Lucky for me, she didn’t ask me very many questions.”

Like how much it would cost to order more than 30,000 LEGOs to construct his five-foot-square masterpiece. Brian won’t say how much he spent, just that it was costly. And it took him a long time. He started in April of 2006 and finished it in July 2009.

The LEGO Lucas Oil Stadium replica is on display this week on the third floor of the JW Marriott, media headquarters for Super Bowl XLVI. And it’s positioned in a perfect spot, with the real stadium visible in the background. The structure was on display at last summer’s Indiana State Fair. Fans will have to pay to see it at the JW Marriott — access today through Friday to the media floor where Radio Row is situated requires buying a $25 ticket.

Alano dedicated three years to the project and no detail was left out. There’s even a working TV screen and a crowd of Colts fans as well football players on the field. Crazy!
