Sometimes altering the look and feel of a team can do wonders for the players and fans. The Bills were smart in that they took what worked and ditched what didn’t and came up with a fresh, new look that is not too far off of their roots.

With that in mind, here’s a look at Five NFL teams that could follow the Bills footsteps and freshen up their look.

I was introduced to the idea of a draft bust in 1998, that was the year Ryan Leaf entered the draft, along with Peyton Manning, Randy Moss and Charles Woodson. Before this time, I was a NFL fan, but I hadn’t yet blossomed into the full-time, diehard football dweeb I am today.

I can still vividly remember the pregame hype surround the Rose Bowl that year between Ryan Leaf’s Washington State Cougars and Charles Woodson’s Michigan Wolverines. Leaf, to his credit, led the Cougars back to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 67 years.

They had a great passing offense going into the teeth of one of most-hyped and best college cornerbacks of a generation in Heisman Memorial Trophy winner Charles Woodson.

Leaf lost that game. Woodson validated his winning of the Heisman. Those who preferred Manning over Leaf were nodding their head in agreement. That day, not the draft, was the beginning of the end for Leaf. And somewhere, Randy Moss was being Randy Moss.

Every year, the NFL Draft provides immense fame, glory and potential riches to a new group of young men. Yet year after year, NFL talent evaluators crash and burn by selecting a bust. Some guys pan out and others don’t.

With the 2011 NFL Draft recently over, I thought I’d revisit some of the biggest draft busts since 2000 since if you’re 21 years old right now, you were maybe 8 years old in 1998. You were too busy listening to “Closing Time” and “Bitter Sweet Symphony” to care about football. Or if you’re closer to my age, watching “The Big Lebowski” and “American History X.”

In this list, I’ll cite one bust from 2000 to 2009 and give some honorable mentions. One final note, some “classic” draft bust selections aren’t quite as bad as others.

Click on the image below to begin the gallery.

February 8, 2011 – Capt. Gridiron

What a great Super Bowl! The Steelers were denied another Super Bowl thanks to Big Ben choking and now the Packers are the hottest ticket in town. The NFL set the highest TV rating with the game as some 890 billion people watched the telecast. It was a win-win for everyone involved

The NFL season has ended but the reality of no football for awhile has yet to sink in. What are we going to do for the next few months? What are we going to do if the NFL stages a lockout and possibly ends the next season before it can begin?

It turns out the people who run the site say I have to keep updating it and I can’t stage a mini-lockout in draft week. I’m lazy like that. So there goes my spring that I had set aside to catch up on my backlog of “LOST” reruns. Oh well….

Football will be around next season for me even if it is only NCAA and the occasional Sunday Madden 2011 marathons with my boys. I mean, just because there’s not an NFL season next year doesn’t mean they won’t be shipping a new version of Madden, does it? That would be the final straw right there for me. If I could revolt from my couch I would.

For a sports junkie like me I was pleased to be invited to the beta testing of a site called Ball Tribe, a sports social networking site.

Pretty cool, I thought. I usually don’t get invited to stuff without a court order attached to it. I would also love to tell you I was in some exclusive club called “Super Awesome Bloggers” consisting of those cool dudes at Kissing Suzy Kolber and the guy at Down Goes Brown. I wasn’t.

I was a bit let down when I found out some other sites were let in as well to test out the site. But that’s OK. I guess you have to have a few people to really test out the site. The dudes there were kind enough to include me in their list so I figured it would be nice of me to mention how super awesome they were and I hope they vote all my articles to the front page….um….I mean it’s a cool site. (*please vote for me*cough*)

As a sports blogger I can tell you that it’s really hard to find one go-to site for information. There’s Digg.com and Reddit.com, but their limited a lot in their sports section. Twitter and Facebook if you want to filter through spam and crap to find something.

There’s also a few sports networks out there as well, but they’re broken up into different place. Some are pretty good, like Yardbarker, but they don’t do much on the voting/popularity side of things anymore.

So when the guys at Ball Tribe contacted me and said they were developing a go-to social site for sports I was pissed off. Mostly because I had never thought of it myself. I mean, after Ball Hype went out there was really nothing there to fill that void and now I look like a stooge for immediately saying “Why didn’t I think of that?”

I’m actually surprised someone hasn’t jumped on this before since it’s a void that is pretty obvious. Guess that’s what I get for spending my weekends on a couch watching football and eating junk food. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, check them out. It’s called BallTribe.com and it’s a voting site that pulls the best sports related content around the internet to one place They pretty much have it all if it’s related to sports. Different categories and it’s all subject to your vote which is cool. And it’s free. Forgot that part. Most important part.

Unfortunately, they only let you vote once on your own article.

Derp Big Ben

Ball Tribe Break Sports News

Top Ten Ben Roethlisberger Excuses For Losing The Super Bowl

A Break In The Action

Dr. Pancake

Top Lists

Top Stories

nfl

pittsburgh steelers

karma for Pittsburgh. Whatever the case, we were treated to a fun Super Bowl that came down to one last Steeler drive that came up just short on 4th down to make everyone in Green Bay officially admit that Aaron Rodgers has replaced that Brett Favre guy.

The Pack won back the Lombardi trophy and now Aaron Rodgers has just as many Super Bowl trophies as Brett Favre and something else that the old man doesn’t have: Super Bowl MVP!

Rodgers was ridiculous in the post-season with his stellar play and continued it again Sunday as the Steelers got behind 21-3 early in the game and just couldn’t seem to get their game going until it was too late.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his offense were a bit streaky and came up short in the end. Too little production in the first half, including two INT’s by Big Ben with one returned for a TD, couldn’t overcome a late second-half surge. Here’s a look at the top ten excuses we expect to hear from Ben Monday morning.

10) Over-confident that the Packers would be as easy to beat as the Jets.

9) Distracted by smell of cologne drifting on field from Jerry Jones owners box

8 ) Accidentally spent week studying the wrong game film from the “Puppy Bowl”

7) Misheard Coach Tomlin’s advice of “Throw a TD” as “Throw an INT’s for a TD before half to put us in a really big hole.”

6) Pre-game massage from John Madden was a bit too relaxing.

5) Wanted to prove he’s the same caliber of QB like Peyton Manning….and can choke during the Super Bowl

4) Black Eyed Peas halftime show made him nauseous

3) Those big guys in green kept hitting his arm as he threw the ball.

2) You know, words really sting. Hard to get over kid in Section FF, Row 112 kept heckling “You Suck, Ben!“

1) No big deal, bra! Gridiron

Halfway through the NFL season and the league has released the Top 25 Best Selling NFL Jerseys for the year so far. The range of sales come from the NFL.com shop and are between the dates of April 1 to October 31, 2010. This is the first real glimpse we have at the status of player popularity as the season has progressed and there’s a new #1.

This isn’t a huge shock but the Steelers Ben Roethlisberger is nowhere to be found among the top 25. Despite the fanatical Steeler fanbase it looks like Big Ben has burned enough bridges to drop off the list for the first time since early September of his rookie season six years ago.
<div
